Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville Introduces Cardiac IVL Therapy
5/18/2024
CLARKSVILLE, TN – Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville is now offering cardiac intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) therapy, an innovative new technology that can safely and effectively fracture resistant calcium blockages to prepare a patient’s coronary arteries for stenting, improving blood flow. The IVL system uses sonic pressure waves to fracture challenging calcium build-up in coronary arteries, while minimizing trauma to a patient’s vessel wall. IVL is used when the build-up of calcium in a patient’s arteries is too severe for a typical stent procedure alone.
Dr. J. David Amlicke, interventional cardiologist with Tennova Cardiology, along with Tennova’s cardiac care team, recently performed Tennova’s first IVL procedure. Dr. Amlicke states, “This is an exciting development in the interventional treatment of coronary artery disease – the most common type of heart disease. It is an easy-to-use and safe way to significantly improve patient outcomes.”
“IVL therapy has given our team a new safe and effective tool,” says Misty Perras, R.N., director of cardiopulmonary services at Tennova. “The sonic pressure waves generated by IVL can crack calcium in only a few pulses, significantly reducing the risk of complications, making procedures more predictable and efficient, and facilitating cardiac stent delivery, deployment, and optimal expansion.”
“IVL therapy allows us to treat more patients at Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville, rather than having to transfer them to facilities far away,” says Dr. Amlicke. Misty Perras adds, “We are proud to be able to offer our patients the most advanced technologies to provide them with the best in cardiac care.”
