APSU Nurses Paint Tennova Red With Kindness

CLARKSVILLE, TN – For more than 40 years the nursing students of Austin Peay State University have stepped outside the confines of the university and inside the community hospital as part of their education. From Clarksville Memorial to Gateway Medical Center and now Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville, this partnership has benefitted both the students and the staff of the hospital. To recognize Tennova and its nurses for this long standing partnership, the APSU Student Nurse Association, for its civility day, chose to “Paint Tennova Red.”
APSU nursing students gathered Friday morning, November 17, to deliver coffee and baskets of goodies to nurses and staff throughout Tennova, as well as visit patients. Instituted by Dr. Eve Rice, director of the School of Nursing, she shares “The APSU School of Nursing is excited to “Paint Tennova Red” for the patients and staff at Tennova. Our motto is 'Kindness Matters' and the School of Nursing wants to start a tradition of giving. We hope to continue this day every semester and spread a little kindness to all.”
Nearly 30 APSU student nurses visited every area of the hospital, both patient care and support areas. Several of the students had completed their clinical rotations at Tennova, so for many of them, it was a chance to reconnect with nurse mentors. "Definitely what the students learn in the classroom is of great importance, but coming to Tennova brings to life what they've only seen in a textbook. They gain so much confidence as a nurse during their onsite clinical education, helping prepare them for their career." shares Michelle Dickerson, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville chief nursing officer. "Our Tennova team members enjoy having the APSU nursing students here each semester. It allows us to mentor future nurses, and it reminds us why we chose to become caregivers."
Student Nursing Association President Ethan Mercado states, “As future nurses we understand compassion is an important aspect of our practice. Tennova is the biggest clinical site for the School of Nursing, and we wanted to start close to home. The association felt Tennova was the perfect location for us to host this event and show our gratitude. We are beyond grateful for Tennova and the staff for their continued support and help in forming future nurses. We couldn't think of a better way to show our gratitude and appreciation than to spread kindness, because KINDNESS MATTERS!”
